Gin Williams Art
Illustrator and Visual Artist
I’m Gin, a freelance artist passionate about digital and traditional media. My artistic journey began many years ago in Barcelona and continues in England, where I live with my family and my cat.Since establishing my home studio in 2018, I have worked on international projects, small press publications and indie writers, including designing and illustrating covers, creating merchandise, producing full illustrations, and collaborating closely with authors to bring their characters to life.I am currently studying Creative Arts to empower my visual language using different media, techniques and disciplines such as illustration, drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, photography, and graphic design.I like to establish connections between the new and the modern, pop culture and the traditional through Art Nouveau. This style allows me to blend folkloric, mythological and fantastic symbolism together with organic forms, graphic elements and patterns, creating visual narratives in each of my pieces.

Q&A

◆ Art and Inspiration ◆·Who are your biggest artistic influences? My biggest artistic influences are A. Mucha, J.C. Leyendecker, P. Kidby, H. Miyazaki, Y. Amano, D. Knoff, Q. Han, and E. Dulac.Besides these artists, I am also influenced by traditional fairy tales, fantasy stories and nature.· What motivates you to create?I feel it's something innate in me. It's another way of communicating my feelings and thoughts through a medium that feels natural for me. In my case, illustration.· How do you develop your art skills?Studying my favourite artists, observing, and practising. I like to face the little challenges that come up with each artwork.· Why is Art Nouveau one of the strongest influences on your work?I would say because of the direct influence of my birthplace, Barcelona. Although I have never lived in the city, I have spent many years studying, working and spending time with my friends there. Catalan "Modernisme" is present throughout the city to a greater or lesser extent. Besides, I strongly agree with his central concept. Modernism tries to bring art into all aspects of life.◆ About my work ◆· What is your favourite subject to draw?I usually draw human figures, flowing dresses with a lot of movement, flowers, plants, animals, and elements of nature. I also enjoy making works based on scenes from movies, stories, or video games.· What mediums do you work with?I work in digital, watercolour, gouache, ink, and pencils.· What software do you use when you work in digital?I use Clip Studio Paint and Procreate.· How long can it take for you to complete a full-page illustration? It depends on the subject, details, number of characters, settings, etc. But it can take between 10 and 60 hours per piece.◆ About me ◆Since when have you been interested in art?I started drawing my favourite characters from series, video games, and books at a very young age. I had formal art education until I was 17. Since then, I have been practising on my own. I am currently studying Creative Arts at the Open College of Arts, focusing on illustration, painting, creative writing, and graphic design.· What are your favourite series, movies, books, and video games?I like Ghibli and Studio Chizu movies. Animation in general.Videogames: Fire Emblem Three Houses, Zelda, Final Fantasy (7, 8, 10 & 15), Hades, Nights into Dreams, and indie games like When the Past was Around.I like different genres of books. My favourite authors are Terry Pratchett, Clamp, Chiho Saito, and Kyoko Mizuki. My favourite genres are romantic, fantasy and horror. My favourite books: The Butterfly Lovers, Like Water for Chocolate, Mort, Las horas prestadas and Tiān Guān Cì Fú.◆ Commissions ◆· How can I request a commission?
On my homepage, there is a section for this. It will take you directly to my commission chart. After choosing your option, click on the heart at the bottom to fill in a questionnaire. I will contact you via email as soon as possible.· Would you work on something that is not mentioned in your Commission chart? If it fits my style and I'm comfortable with your idea, yes. Feel free to email me so we can have a chat about your idea - I’m very friendly.· Would you draw my Original Characters/DnD/WoL?Of course, I would! Just make sure you send me a bunch of references and give me a brief explanation of their personality. Moodboards or little sketches done by you will work great for me.· Do you draw real people?I can draw you or whoever you’d like me to.
Remember that it’ll be with my style, so it won’t be a realistic portrait.· Do you do NSFW?I am happy working with tasteful nudity, sensuality and full-body nudes. I am not happy portraying graphic sexual practices.· When is your open commissioning season?I usually work all year round, but I take a break during the summer and winter holidays to take care of my son and spend time with my family. During this time, I also like to keep practising and experimenting with different artistic techniques.· Can I request a commission if I am a minor?Often, my work contains scenes with nudity or half-nude characters, so I prefer to work exclusively with adult clients over the age of 18.
